Common questions

How do I get into the Parent Zone?

Tap "Grown-ups" at the bottom of the home screen. You will be asked a question like "What is seven plus five?", spelled out in words. Type the answer as digits and tap Continue. The numbers change each time. It is written out in words on purpose, so a child who cannot read yet cannot get through.

Why does a coloring app want the microphone?

Only so a parent can record the spoken prompts in their own voice, which many children respond to far better than a stranger's. It is completely optional. If you never open that screen, the app never asks.

Recordings stay in the app's own folder on your device. They are never uploaded, and the app has no networking code at all, so there is no way for them to leave. See the privacy policy.

How do I record my own voice for the prompts?

Open the Parent Zone, turn on "Use my recorded voice", then tap Record next to any color. Say the prompt, for example "Can you find the color red?", then tap Stop. Use Play to hear it back, or Delete to try again.

The games use your recording wherever you have made one, and the built-in voice everywhere else, so you can do a few colors and leave the rest.

Does it need an internet connection?

No. Everything is on the device already. Gull apps work on a plane, in the car, and anywhere with no signal. They contain no networking code whatsoever.

Are there ads or anything my child can buy?

No, to both. There is no advertising of any kind, and there is nothing to purchase inside a Gull app, so there is no way for a child to spend money.

My child is deaf or hard of hearing. Will this work?

Yes. Gull apps are built by a developer who is hard of hearing, and every spoken cue has a visual counterpart. The color being asked for is printed on screen as well as spoken, the gull reacts visibly to right and wrong answers, and taps confirm through touch. The apps are fully playable with the volume off.

How do I clear my child's stickers and start over?

Open the Parent Zone and choose "Reset progress". You will be asked to confirm. This clears stickers and completed levels and cannot be undone.

Nothing is playing. What should I check?

Check the mute switch on the side of an iPhone, and the volume while the app is open, since iOS keeps a separate level per app. If you are in the Parent Zone with headphones connected, try without them.

Everything in the app can be played silently, so if you would rather not fix it right now, nothing is lost.

Which devices are supported?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 16 or later. There is no Android version.

How do I get a refund?

Purchases go through the App Store, so Apple handles refunds. Use reportaproblem.apple.com. We are not able to issue one directly.
